Invisalign FAQs

Invisalign is a wonderful treatment option for patients that want to straighten their teeth without the bulky look and feel of traditional metal braces. However, despite the obvious comfort and appearance improvements, we understand that patients sometimes have questions about the Invisalign process and other issues. To provide this important information, we have created this page of frequently asked questions for our patients. We hope that the answers will help you decide if Invisalign is the right teeth straightening option for you or your teen.

How does Invisalign treatment work to improve my smile?

Once you choose Invisalign clear braces to straighten your teeth, Dr. Rosenbaum and the friendly staff at NorthPointe Family Dentistry will schedule you for a consultation. During this initial appointment, your teeth will be examined and impressions will be taken. These impressions will then be used to craft a series of clear plastic aligners that will gradually shift your teeth into the most attractive alignment. Each set of aligners is worn for about two weeks before the patient moves to the next set of aligners in their treatment plan.

Why is orthodontic treatment important?

The practice of orthodontics focuses on the diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of tooth, jawbone, and facial irregularities. This branch of dentistry deals with issues related to the alignment of teeth or the jaw. If left untreated, patients with these problems can have an increased risk of tooth decay, possible tooth loss, pain, and even digestive problems. That is why it is so important to see a quality orthodontist as soon as you learn that such a visit is necessary.

What is the recommended age for my child to see an orthodontist?

Research suggests that early treatment can help patients avoid surgery or more serious complications later in life. Here at NorthPointe Family Dentistry, we recommend that children visit an orthodontist by age 7, or earlier if a problem has been detected by a parents, a dentist, or a physician. However, it is important to note that orthodontic treatment can be started at any age.

I am 42. Am I too old for orthodontic treatment?

It is never too late to improve the appearance or health of your smile. We routinely see patients of all ages in our office who are seeking to get a better smile with Invisalign clear braces. You can also check out our results page to see what Invisalign has done for patients just like you. Patients who do not have a fully developed jawbone are not advised to use Invisalign. To see if you are a good candidate for Invisalign, we suggest you call us for a no-obligation consultation.

How long will the Invisalign process take to straighten my teeth?

Total treatment time for most patients with mild to moderate alignment or spacing problems usually takes between 12 and 18 months. Patients will change their Invisalign aligner every two weeks and should visit Dr. Rosenbaum once every 6 weeks or so. More complicated cases can take longer to treat. We recommend a comprehensive examination with Dr. Rosenbaum so that we can give you a more accurate estimate of how long your treatment will take.

Can I afford Invisalign?

At NorthPointe Family Dentistry we believe in helping our valued patients straighten their teeth regardless of their budget. This is why we offer many great payment options and receive benefits from most dental insurance plans. For more financial details, please call our office today to find out our many payment options or how you can finance your Invisalign treatment.

Will Invisalign interfere with playing sports or an instrument?

Invisalign is a wonderful tooth straightening option because it can be removed to play sports, take pictures, attend special events, or play a musical instrument. Patients will need to be sure that they wear their aligners approximately 22 hours a day. Anything less could interfere with your specific orthodontic plan and prolong your treatment.
